Rugbyfan proved that you can go scorched earth and still not tank completely (if Tony V. hadn’t already proven that the week before with his genius anti-Archibald picks).
Reigning week 1 champ Ben had a dramatic turnaround…which isn’t a good thing since he was already doing well.
Griftdrift seems to be taking a slow and steady wins the race approach, and leads in the overall standings.
As for me, I won this round…which really only proves that anyone can win.

Game of the Week
Ohio State (5) vs. Southern California (1).
I’d like to go with something less Yankee this week, but given that Steve Spurrier South Carolina doesn’t look very imposing after its loss to Vandy, that’s the most intriguing match-up remaining. Georgia has no business losing that game, but will probably find a way to make it a 12-9 uglyfest and not cover the spread, which is generous if you ask me.
How to enter your picks
You read the rules, right?
The short version:
- You’re picking which teams won’t cover their spread. You must choose at least one team not to cover unless there is only one game being played that week.
- You’re also entering a predicted score for the Game of the Week, which cannot be the same as a predicted score another player enters.
Example:
Florida and Clemson don’t cover. Alabama wins the GOTW 19-14.
If I entered that, that means I think Florida and Clemson either would lose or not cover their spreads, and you then wouldn’t be able to predict a 19-14 win for Alabama.

Oh man, this is gonna be one of these seasons for me. Time to go all out I suppose?
September 8th, 2008 at 9:25 pmNah, the good thing about betting on the spread instead of straight up is you ought to have a while yet to catch up.
September 8th, 2008 at 9:57 pmI seem to be missing from the Week Two Results, but I can see where I stand from the raw data.
Also, I scored a 9 last week and an 11 this week. To commemorate 9/11, y’all.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:51 pmI think I know what happened there. Corrected, thanks for pointing it out.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:56 pmSlow and steady = South Georgia Voodoo
September 9th, 2008 at 12:28 amFsck. That blew. Goddammit. Well, I’m glad I didn’t put up that “I am awesome at picking football” post like I thought about.
I have a bad feeling about this week, too. I can’t believe I’m picking USC not to cover, but I think that 10 point spread is inflated because of last week. Goddamn Tressel usually has his teams well prepared, SEC not withstanding. Of course, it is just like the Big Ten recently to lay an egg on national TV. Fucking Ohio, embarrassing all of us….
Won’t cover:
Mizzou
Auburn
Southern California
LSU
Utah
GOTW:
September 9th, 2008 at 12:31 amOhio State 21 – USC 17
It would have been AWESOME if you’d written that post.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:38 amNo teams cover.
GOTW: USC 2 – OSU 0
September 9th, 2008 at 9:20 amJesus … the fact I am not in dead last is somehow a testament to how terrible the rest of you are at this.
East Carolina
Brigham Young
Alabama
GOTW: USC 41-17
September 9th, 2008 at 10:06 amUSC, Clemson, Penn St and Alabama won’t cover. GOTW: USC 34, OSU 32
September 9th, 2008 at 11:37 amEast Carolina, Auburn, Wisconsin, Utah wont cover
September 9th, 2008 at 12:16 pmGOTW: USC 24-Ohio 21
East Carolina, Brigham Young, and Southern Cal won’t cover.
GOTW USC 30-24
September 9th, 2008 at 2:32 pmI would like it to be known that I won the picks contest three years ago.
Won’t Cover: South Florida.
GOTW: USC – 98, tOSU – 3
September 9th, 2008 at 2:55 pmTeams that will not cover: South Florida; Clemson; Missouri; Texas; BYU
September 9th, 2008 at 10:21 pmGOTW: USC over Ohio State 31-21
Will not cover: South Florida, BYU, Oregon, Wisconsin
USC 34-17
September 10th, 2008 at 11:12 amUncoverers: S Fla, Texas, Oregon, Georgia, Penn St, BYU, So Cal, Utah, and Wisconsic. Don’t let the Buckeyes fool you. They played dead last week and won’t be rattled out West. OSU 26, USC 21.
And yes, Ben K. Ohio is the one embarassing the Big 10. The Michigan play the last couple of years has been the crowning jewel. Off to another good start this year! Beaten on your own field by Utah and lucked up at home against an opponent Vandy spanked on the road.
What’s the matter Tony? Couldn’t wait for my picks so you could pick the opposite. It’s not too late.
So UGA fans…is the first loss this week? Probably not but SC plays UGA tough every year so if I were gay, I mean a Georgia fan, same thing…I would be a little nervous about this one.
September 10th, 2008 at 6:53 pmSteve Spurrier had his dignity handed to him in a paper bag last week, and his lame players will still be feeling the shame this week, so we are going to slaughter them. Knowshon will leap over the heads of 5 defenders, just because he can, and the kicker will take one in to the endzone just to rub it in even more.
Thus ends my trash-talking for the week.
Won’t cover: South FL, Penn, USC and Utah
September 11th, 2008 at 9:28 amGotW: OSU 24, USC 21
Won’t cover: Auburn and USF
Saying the bulls won’t cover makes me sad.
GOTW: USC 38 Ohio St 21
September 11th, 2008 at 12:14 pmArchibald: Given the week 1 success of my anti-Archibald strategy and your current place in the standings, I decided to not kick you while you were down. But, if you insist, I will.
Rusty: Can I pick Archibald to not cover? If he gets 10 or more picks right, I’ll give him one of my points. But, if he gets less than 10 right, I get one of the few points he has.
This may be crazy, given that he picked 3 of my 4 “not covers” and that 10 is a pretty low number. However, I have a feeling that the only thing worse than Archibald’s sense of smell is his sense of winning.
South Carolina actually concerns me more than a lot of our other games this year. We have had little offensive performance against them the last two years. But, I think UGA will pull it out in a game has a lot of downside potential and not much upside.
September 11th, 2008 at 4:00 pmCan I pick Archibald to not cover?
September 11th, 2008 at 4:01 pmOf course, only if Archibald also consents.
If y’all want to side bet points with each other, it’s fine with me as long as both people consent. How about it Archibald?
September 11th, 2008 at 4:05 pmCal, Clemson, and USF won’t cover.
GotW 20-10 USC
And I hope we can keep the gay/Georgia jokes coming. I had almost forgotten what elementary school was like.
September 12th, 2008 at 10:42 amSorry, I was too late for this week Tony. If you would like to do so going forward I am game. I don’t know if I would have gotten the 10 this week as I missed some of the late scores but it would have been close.
September 14th, 2008 at 9:06 amActually, I was hoping you wouldn’t respond. I think my sense of trash talking exceeds my sense of reason at times.
UGA/SCar was ugly . . . just ugly. At least ASU laid an egg. Hopefully we can get things going in a big game next week before facing Alabama.
