If you ever get discouraged by a seemingly-insurmountable points deficit, remember the example Garrett set this week: anybody with a lead can totally hose their picks at any time and open the door for everyone else.
Bravo sir, that was almost as bad as the Georgia Bulldogs played this weekend. Almost.
Then there was my alma mater’s “football team,” which put up 67 passing yards against Auburn. Not in a quarter, but during the entire game. The Tennessee Vols are again the subject of this week’s poll:
You can't spell ________ without UT.
- futility (44%, 4 Votes)
- quarterback controversy (33%, 3 Votes)
- three and out (22%, 2 Votes)
- butterfingers (0%, 0 Votes)

Game of the Week
The most intriguing match-up to me is actually among unranked Duke and Georgia Tech. But we’re going to stick with ranked teams for this purpose, so I’ll go with… Auburn at Vanderbilt.
For serious, Vandy is ranked 19th and owns the SEC East lead with two league wins. Bet you didn’t see that one coming.
Auburn has a stout defense, but also an offense that wouldn’t be able to move the ball against Bugs Bunny’s Carrot Patch at Six Flags:

The Commies might be able to pull this one off.
How to enter your picks
You read the rules, right?
The short version:
- You’re picking which teams won’t cover their spread. You must choose at least one team not to cover unless there is only one game being played that week.
- You’re also entering a predicted score for the Game of the Week, which cannot be the same as a predicted score another player enters.
Example:
Florida and Clemson don’t cover. Alabama wins the GOTW 19-14.
If I entered that, that means I think Florida and Clemson either would lose or not cover their spreads, and you then wouldn’t be able to predict a 19-14 win for Alabama.

Remember how I said I wanted to pick everyone not to cover? Argh argh argh. September 29th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
At least my picking against Florida finally won me a point! September 29th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I don’t know what is sweeter, UGA and UF losing, or me winning this round!
Rusty you should have taken my second bet, you would have defeated me!
Once again; no teams cover, GOTW Vandy 2 - Auburn 0. Also anyone willing to make a wager–say so.
I am tempted to question my standards and say Auburn, USC, and Florida don’t cover. September 29th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Careful rugby, that 2-0 score you just picked might be closer than you intend for it to be. September 29th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Doesn’t Cover:
South Florida
Virginia Tech
Oklahoma State
GOTW: Auburn 20 Vandy 13 September 30th, 2008 at 12:01 am
Go Blue! what a comeback! I’m still holding out hope for the Motor City Bowl - my team is going to have a bunch more games like that first half.
Also, extra yummy-ness for the Florida loss. That one always goes down smoothly. September 30th, 2008 at 12:05 am
kansas, ohio state, alabama, north carolina, auburn, and utah wont cover auburn 14 vandy 24 September 30th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Yeesh, yeah, that was ugly. But it’s a testament to my strong picks all season that my utter failure this week only knocked me down to second place. Here’s hoping I don’t slide any farther.
I’d like to pick Boise State to cover and come back to make the rest of my picks, if that’s ok. September 30th, 2008 at 1:03 am
South Florida, Alabama and Missouri don’t cover.
GOTW Auburn 10, Vandy 3
And yeah, Garrett, it’s fine to just pick the early games and then come back to pick the rest later. September 30th, 2008 at 9:52 am
I keep getting burned picking South Florida not to cover, and yet I keep picking them not to cover anyway. Someday I’ll be right. September 30th, 2008 at 9:53 am
Utah, Kansas, Alabama, USC, and Ohio State.
GOTW: Auburn 24 - 17 September 30th, 2008 at 11:18 am
Wait, is that Texas A&M at Oklahoma State line right? OK St by 25? September 30th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Yup, it’s right.
Texas A&M isn’t very good this year. September 30th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
What?
Citrus wasn’t a choice? October 1st, 2008 at 2:34 am
Sadly, that’s been changed to the Capital One Bowl now. No UT to be found in there.
And besides, that would be an unrealistically lofty goal for the Vols this year. October 1st, 2008 at 6:19 am
Time to make a big move up in the standings. North Carolina and Missouri won’t cover.
Auburn 20, Vandy 7 October 1st, 2008 at 9:56 am
I have a bad reaction just thinking about football . . . I need a week off. Florida doesn’t cover.
Auburn 17 Vandy 9 October 1st, 2008 at 10:09 am
OK, my confusion was that the (22) ranking appears on my computer to apply to Texas A&M, not OK St. I was wondering why an unranked team would be favored by 25 over the #22 team. Nevermind my stupidity. October 1st, 2008 at 10:26 am
OK, I’m going big or going home this week.
Florida, Kansas, Auburn, Texas Tech and Missouri don’t cover. GOTW is Auburn 17 Vandy 14. October 1st, 2008 at 10:35 am
Teams that WILL NOT cover: Utah; Florida; Kansas; Virginia Tech; Alabama; Auburn; Oklahoma State; North Carolina; USC; Fresno St.
GOTW: Auburn 19 Vanderbilt 17 October 1st, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Sigh. I really am sucking this year.
Anyone else rooting for Oklahoma to go down to Baylor?
Bama, Missouri, Brigham Young, and Oklahoma won’t cover.
GotW: Auburn 21 Vandy 17 October 1st, 2008 at 3:09 pm
BYU and Florida don’t cover.
GOTW: Auburn 3, Vandy 2. October 1st, 2008 at 6:22 pm
USC and Ohio St don’t cover.
Auburn 31 Vandy 14 October 1st, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Auburn, Florida, Southern Cal, and UNC don’t cover.
GotW Auburn 13 Vandy 9 October 2nd, 2008 at 2:52 pm
I meant to say that Boise State would cover. That means I get a point for last night, right? October 2nd, 2008 at 7:21 pm
No. October 3rd, 2008 at 2:10 pm
