Remember the tiebreaker rules we discussed in week 7? We get to use them now.

Alyssa picked Penn State to beat the Ohio State University 28-21, a margin of 7. Carl also picked PSU to beat tOSU 31-24, also a margin of 7. So we have to go to the second tiebreaker of closest to the point total.

Alyssa’s score totals 49, Carl’s score totals 55.

The actual final score of the game was 13-6, a total of 19 points. So Alyssa wins the tiebreaker and is the week 9 winner.

Game of the Week

I thought about making the World’s Greatest Cocktail Party Civil Christian Gathering for Wholesome Fun the Game of the Week, but the Texas-Texas Tech match-up of undefeateds looks too good to pass up. So let it be said.

How to enter your picks

You read the rules, right?

The short version:

  • You’re picking which teams won’t cover their spread. You must choose at least one team not to cover unless there is only one game being played that week.
  • You’re also entering a predicted score for the Game of the Week, which cannot be the same as a predicted score another player enters.

Example:

Florida and Clemson don’t cover. Alabama wins the GOTW 19-14.

If I entered that, that means I think Florida and Clemson either would lose or not cover their spreads, and you then wouldn’t be able to predict a 19-14 win for Alabama.

  1. Woohoooo!!!! I’m treasuring this moment – my comeback is working!!!

    :)

  2. There are a lot of bad lines this week. Lots to choose from…

Georgia Tech, USC, Tulsa, UF, Oklahoma State, Texas and Michigan State won’t cover.

GOTW: Texas 31, Texas Tech, 28

  3. Carl Lindecrant z

Will Not Cover: Minnesota; Michigan St.; Georgia-Tech; California; USC; Oklahoma
    GOTW: Texas-34 Texas Tech-23

  4. South Florida, Minnesota, Oklahoma and TCU don’t cover.

GOTW Texas 34, Texas Tech 24

I’m picking Cincy to beat the spread and maybe upset South Florida despite their possibly ill-fated blackout.

  5. Tony Ventry

Will not cover: Cal, USC and (especially) Florida

GOTW: Texas 35, Texas Tech 20

I’m glad that I didn’t miss a Wednesday night game this week . . . I need to pick it up. At my current pace, I’ll be joining Archibald in the cellar pretty soon. Plus, I have to beat Jen.

  6. Doesn’t cover: Tulsa, Georgia Tech,

GOTW: Texas 41 Texas Tech 35

  7. The University of Florida, The Georgia Institute of Technology

GOTW: The University of Texas 45-17

  8. Florida, Minnesota, Oklahoma, GA Tech, California and USC will not cover.
GotW: Texas 45, Texas Tech 31

  9. rugbyfan

    No teams cover.

Game of the week: FSU 223 – GT negative 3.

  10. Will Not Cover – GATORSEATBOOGERS, USC, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Michigan State.

    GotW – Criminoles 21, Nerds 3.

  11. just in under the deadline – south florida will cover the spread.

I’ll post the rest in a few, but i wanted to get this one in before the game starts.

  12. won’t cover the spread:

    Minnesota
    Florida
    Georgia Tech
    Cal
    Texas

    GOTW: Texas Tech 38 – Texas 35

  13. rugbyfan

Jen: While I take great offense at your belittling the fine institution of Florida State University, I feel required to say that the Game of the Week is not between FSU and Tech, but Texas and Texas Tech.

I refuse to partake in Rusty’s sham of a game this year, so I create my own GOTW.

  14. I’m partial to Free Shoes University myself.

  15. FSU, FSU
    Where the girls are girls
    And the boys are too!

  16. rugbyfan

Oh yea, well, UGA where, uh, everyone is a dog. Oooo.

And Tennessee, where uh, the football players wear prison jumpsuit orange. Oooo…

  17. Looks like rugby and I were the only ones to pick USF-Cincy right. Nice work rugby.

    Bobby Bowden is old.

  18. Reginald

Ga tech, california, florida, alabama, and michigan state will not cover GOTW: Texas 24 Texas Tech 10

  19. rugbyfan

I kind of wish I had been wrong on that. I like a variety of teams in the top 25 and have a bit of a soft spot for USF after they reached #2 last year. Oh well, they had a good run.

    Phillip Fulmer is fat.

  20. You FSU haters can go fuck yourselves!

  21. Archibald Throngbow

Now rugbyfan, you know that is not prison orange on the Vols. It is gay orange. And Fulmer is pleasantly plump. Mangino for Kansas is fat. Wonka needs to play his flute so the oompa loompas will roll Mangino away.

Uncoverers: S Fla (cha-ching), Minnesota, Ga Tech, Cal, USC, Texas, TCU, LSU, and Utah.

    Sara…if only I could…

    Texas Tech 38, Texas 34

  22. Huh. I thought I had already submitted my picks.

    Cal and Florida don’t cover.

    GotW Texas wins 22-11
