You may have noticed the AJC‘s homepage redesign launched today. On the whole, I believe it’s an improvement. It’s reminiscent of CNN’s redesign from not too long ago which, despite some nitpicking by me, seems to have gone over well with users.
Reaction to the new logo at the top of the page has been mixed, however. Brandon Sheats pointed out on Twitter that it looks a lot like Hewlett-Packard’s logo, and he’s right:

AJC and HP logos
Maybe it’s a subliminal message that they want to sell their printing presses?

As I was just discussing with my coworkers, I really don’t like the new logo. It gives me the impression of soft and fuzzy. Those are not characteristics I want from a news source. While their old site did nothing to make browsing easy, at least their logo was crisp, clean and had some confidence to it. Those are things I want from my paper.
